The Microfinance Centre (MFC) is an international, grass-roots network of 104 microfinance institutions in Europe and Central Asia. Since its establishment in 1997, MFC has been committed to the development of a socially oriented, client-focused and sustainable microfinance sector by addressing the main challenges hampering an effective and planned development of the sector.
The mission of MFC is to contribute to poverty reduction and human potential development by promoting a socially oriented and sustainable microfinance sector that provides adequate financial and non-financial services to a large number of poor families and micro-entrepreneurs.
MFC facilitates the sector development by providing; sector mapping and benchmarking, capacity building (training and consulting); policy work, financial education and social performance. Additionally MFC organizes annual conference and supports network development. Recently, MFC has launched a global fund to build capacity of country level networks in social performance. MFC is represented in the most important global sector fora such as the SMART Campaign and the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF).
MFC supporters and strategic partners include: IFAD, ICCO, Citi Foundation, Imp- Act Consortium, The MasterCard Foundation, The SEEP Network, Oxfam Novib, The Rockdale Foundations, Ford Foundation, CGAP, European Investment Fund and the European Commission.
