Self-controlled financing system - Broodfondsen

Publication Good practices

Self-Controlled Financing System – Broodfondsen (literally translated means “Bread Funds”) is a project of the cooperative group Broodfondsen in the Netherlands and was created in 2004. The document analyses how the cooperative provides an insurance system for those who are self–employed in the Netherlands and how it sets up a mechanism that enables members of the groups to financially support other members during moments of work disability due to sickness/accidents. Considering that 68% of the self-employed in the Netherlands live and work without adequate insurance, this is an innovative way to promote the use of internal funds to provide services in the community.
