The creation of CoopEst S.A. is based on the evidence that access to long-term financing (private and public) in Central and Eastern Europe is still very limited and difficult for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) – mainly due to the weakness of their financial structure.

 
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Central and Eastern Europe lack long-term financing, or face inappropriate banking offers. This is even more striking for social enterprises such as cooperatives, mutual societies, or economic initiatives promoted by associations and foundations.
 
Therefore, CoopEst S.A. aims to provide long-term financial support both in terms of equity (subordinated loan), long-term loans and guarantees to sustainable and socially responsible projects in the target countries, thus enabling them to leverage further funding for the development of their activities.
 
Based in Brussels, CoopEst S.A. is an investment company set up in 2006 to support and finance socially responsible projects in Central and Eastern Europe. CoopEst S.A. was created by key players of social finance in Europe, together with the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group).
