The second edition of the European Microcredit Research Award, was run jointly by Fundación Nantik Lum and EMN. As it was last year, the Award was endowed with €1,000 and recognized the most outstanding practitioner-oriented research paper covering a topic relevant to the microfinance field in Europe. Papers presented by young researchers were especially valued.
In a first stage, the Award Selection Committee selected the three finalists: Alexander Kritikos (Germany) on demand side analysis, Altin Muça (Albania) on client retention and Djamchid Assadi (France) on online microlending websites.
These finalists presented their papers at the 6th Annual EMN Conference’s research workshop moderated by Fundación Nantik Lum. During the workshop, attendees had the opportunity to vote on their favourite paper. Ultimately, based on the Selection Committee’s decision and the vote results from the workshop, one outstanding paper was awarded the 2009 European Microcredit Research Award.
The winner of the 2009 European Microcredit Research Award is:
Prof. Alexander Kritikos (German Institute for Economic Research), Christopher Kneiding (CGAP/World Bank) and Claas Christian Germelmann (Saarland University) for their paper
"Demand side analysis of Micro-lending markets in Germany".
